I have the same question, webservices api would be great, there's already a bunch of other API that's marked experimental

Re: vSphere 6 Web Client issues
Anyone know how to get the hosts to show in the web client all the time? This is really unacceptable. VMware is pushing everyone to the web client and it flat out doesn't work. I find myself doing all of my work in the desktop client.

Re: How to install Windows 10 Version 1511 upgrade (aka November update) on SCSI drives
I had just performed the update as well (took seemingly forever, even though I have an SSD) without issue. Spent ~1/2 hour
messing around with the VM after the update and came across nothing unusual.
FWIW:
-Windows 10 originally updated from valid Windows 7
-the virtual drive was configured as expanding and single file (and SCSI).
-Fusion 8.02
-OSX 10.11.1
-early 2011 13" Macbook Pro, 2.7 GHz i7
Will be seeing how it goes tomorrow with my iMac Windows 10 VM, configured the same.
Re: VDP 6.1 --> 6.1.1; upgrade ISO not detected
I have the same issue. the upgrade worked on my other 3 appliances, but this one does not see the cdrom/dvd mounted either.
Workstation 11 - Control Alt Del
Hi all,
I've got a Windows 7 VM that requires Control Alt Del to log in to. Sending the control-alt-del from the VM-send control alt del menu does nothing. I've attempted to install the vmware tools from the option at the bottom of the screen but it requires that you log into the system first, which I can not do without hitting Control alt del. So catch 22. Anyone know a work around?
Here's what I've tried:
- VM->Send Ctrl+Alt+Del
- manually typing Ctrl+Alt+Insert
- Using the VM's Ease of access on screen display option and checking "type without keyboard" & "Press keyboard shortcuts one at a time" then clicking both control alt del & control alt insert
Thank you
Re: Workstation 11 - Control Alt Del
Microsoft issued a defective update (KB3097877) to Windows 7 a few days ago, and some users have reported that one of the symptoms is that the login screen no longer works. Here's a thread with one possible solution: Need help recovering from KB3097877. Can't login at all : windows
Give that a try in your VM, and see if it helps!

Re: VDP 6.1 --> 6.1.1; upgrade ISO not detected
After spending a bunch of time I don't have on troubleshooting this issue, I finally got it to go by manually mounting the ISO.
A. Follow pre-upgrade procedures as normal (Shut down, disks-->Dependent, snapshot, restart, etc.)
1. Attach the upgrade ISO to the appliance
2. SSH into the appliance and su to root
3. On my appliance, the vCDROM is /dev/sr0. Yours may be different
4. As root, type mount /dev/sr0 /mnt/auto/cdrom
5. Wait a few minutes. Now, when you do a df -h, you should see the ISO mounted.
6. Wait a few more minutes, then go into VDP configure and perform the upgrade as usual
Re: Need Education on VMWare Converter
That link leads to documentation and download for 6.0. And it also gives binary download for 5.5.3. Where do I get documention and downloads for older versions?
Is there a commercial license required to use these?
Re: Windows programs are still associated with (uninstalled) Parallels
Thanks Mike. I followed your steps. As an example, I chose a JPG file. I'd like all JPG files to open in Fusion in Windows with the Windows Photo Viewer app. This is what I easily (I don't remember how; it was trivial) set up to happen in Parallels. But because I did that, JPG files are now associated, apparently, with the Windows Photo Viewer app in Parallels.
So, Get Info on a JPG file shows Windows Photo Viewer is listed as the default app already. But if I look closely at the Windows Photo Viewer app icon, it's got a tiny Parallels icon superimposed to show that it will open in Parallels. Indeed, when I try to open the JPG, I get "Parallels Desktop was not found." The tiny Parallels icon is superimposed on most windows files and apps, which means I can't open any of them in Unity mode. (I don't have any of this issue in Single Window or Full Screen modes; there, Windows just works like Windows.) If I expand the Open With list I see no additional Windows Photo Viewer app that's associated with Fusion. I do see some other Windows apps (Paint and Photos) that are associated with Fusion, but these are apps I never used when I had Parallels installed.
The problem goes further. For example, I have VMware Fusion > Preferences > Default Applications > Open Mail (mailto) with: > Microsoft Outlook.app. When I click a mailto in an OS X browser window, I get "Parallels Desktop was not found." The Microsoft Outlook.app icon visible in the Default Applications dialog contains the tiny Parallels icon.
Somehow, deep in my system, all these Windows apps and files are associated with Parallels. I think I need to get rid of that somehow. With a normal Fusion install, shouldn't they all get associated with Fusion?
Re: Mouse problem on second display using WS 10 (regression?)
The DPI scaling setting fixed it for me. Thanks so much AvalonWar! I was about to go insane.

Re: ESXi 5.x on an Intel J1900 board (Q1900-ITX Asrock) issue
Hello everybody. I have Asrock d1800b-itx and have some issue. I tried to downgrade and upgrade the BIOS version. Disable all function that is possible. But the problem remained. Someone have you found a solution?
Re: Need Education on VMWare Converter
I cannot find the download for 4.3, except for on third party sites. Is there no working link on the vmware web site?
USB to Serial adapter, linked clone pool, on disconnect then reconnect, com port increments by one
We need the Com port to remain the same even after disconnects. The serial adapter is "ATEN USB to Serial Bridge" GUC232A from IOGEAR being passed from a Linux client. If there were serial port redirection for the Linux client, we would use that instead of USB redirection.
We have tried the following in a "Commands to run on disconnect" script in this order:
devcon remove "*VID_0557&PID_2008"
net stop ser2at
We have granted authenticated users recursive full control of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB with a reg delete of that key
reg delete "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_0557&PID_2008" /f
Nothing seems to work. Any advice? Peter?
On a running system, in this order:
the net stop ser2at responds "The requested pause, continue, or stop is not valid for this service."
reg delete responds "ERROR: Delete request is partially completed."
Devcon responds "USB\VID_0557&PID_2008\6&22B51DFA&0&4: Removed \n 1 device(s) were removed."
Could someone please elaborate when "Commands to run on disconnect" runs and under what user context? Will it run if I just unplug the physical computer or will it run only if I use the horizon view menu to disconnect? What about unplugging the network connection?

Re: How is Autostart supposed to work for NT4 guest?
In addition to the issue with the inoperable NIC on startup, I also discovered that Autostart VMs don't appear to get cleanly shutdown when the Host OS restarts. Have I misunderstood the purpose of Autostart? I would have assumed that Autostarted VMs would be cleanly shutdown.
I did a quick google search and it looks like the answer is that Autostarted VMs don't automatically shutdown.
Re: Workstation 11 - Control Alt Del
Thanks for the Feedback Darius. Unfortunately the VM is of a Lenovo laptop system and F2, F8 & F11 do not work to go into repair mode. So it's not working. Any other ideas? Essentially I just need to log in for the first time so I can install the VM ware tools.
Re: Migrate vCenter server VM to another host
vCenter to 55 U3 - Check. Sounds good here.
When you say hot move the storage, you mean to say move the vCenter VM contents from local datastore to a shared datastore, correct?
If this is the hot move of storage for the VM you are referring to, then it would not be possible with this license because SVmotion is not supported.
You can try cloning the VM to a shared datastore, discard the old VM, and with the VM being on a shared datastore, you can leverage vMotion functionality of Essential Plus

Bizarrely, I tried this again today and it installed without a hiccup...

Re: Workstation 11 - Control Alt Del
Even on a laptop with "special" function keys, there is usually a "Fn" key (next to the Shift/Ctrl/Alt keys) to make the F2/F8/F11 keys do what they should do. Try holding down that "Fn" key (it works just like a Shift key) and press the F8 key at the right time inside the VM.
It's rather unlikely that installing VMware Tools will directly help with your login screen problems.
